About the job


  • Support the development of OHS policies and programs across Sasa mine operation

  • Advise and instruct on operational controls such as lock out/ tag out, electrical safety, mobile equipment, working at heights, confined spaces entry, noise protection, dust and particulate protection, exposure to chemicals, Musculo skeletal risks)

  • Conduct risk assessment and support the enforcement of preventative measures

  • Support the review of existing policies and measures

  • Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity (e.g. not using protective equipment, poor housekeeping)

  • Oversee installations, maintenance, disposal of substances etc.

  • Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy

  • Support the investigation of incidents to determine immediate and root causes

  • Mentor, coach mid-level and supervisor level management personnel in developing their knowledge and abilities in the management of OHS.

  • Practical mentoring, coaching of management personnel in the development of a sustainable safety culture

  • Support the development of operations personnel skills and abilities to recognize and manage work environment risks.

  • Assist in the validation of acquired skills set to ensure safe operating practices.

  • Mentoring and coaching employees during on-job training

  • Help identify training needs of the workforce in a continuous improvement mindset

  • Perform infield observations to ensure learning are implemented in daily activities, consults with management when opportunities are identified

  • Support the department managers in creation, implementation, and evaluation of employees training plans

  • Complete daily reports on observed health & safety opportunities and successes

  • BSc in Health & Safety engineering

  • At least 1 to 5 years’ experience in Health & Safety in industrial settings

  • Extensive knowledge of mine operations and mine equipment (an advantage)

  • Computer literate in the Microsoft Office suite of programs

  • Teamwork abilities

  • Good communication skills
